Instructions for Grown-Ups

In this video and activity, we’ll invite you to look at some of the questions at the heart of PIPELINE: What makes someone a good parent? What makes someone a good teacher?

We are all different, and often need different things from the adults in our lives. Sometimes our needs can change from one day to the next. There have probably been times when you wanted to be pushed or challenged and other times when you just needed a little space to think. In PIPELINE, the character Nya, who is the mom of a young Black man, pleads with her son for guidance on how best to parent him.

Lincoln Center Theater teaching artist Gwenyth Reitz introduces an activity directed at the grown-ups in our lives.
